Baltimore hits a happy medium between the hectic frigidity of the Northeast and the lazy mugginess of the South. It has a homey, blue-collar atmosphere, much like Philadelphia or Boston, that is universally appealing. Known as “Charm City”, Baltimore is unique and endearing in many ways.

The Inner Harbor downtown has been extensively revitalized since the early 1980’s, and is a great destination on a sunny day: you can walk completely around the harbor or take a water taxi to the other side. You’ll pass Harborplace, The Maryland Science Center, The National Aquarium, and many other tourist attractions.

The trendy neighborhood of Fell’s Point has long been a hot spot for restaurants, nightclubs and art galleries; more recently, Federal Hill and Canton have joined it in attracting a diverse crowd of locals.

Be sure to check out historical sites such as Fort McHenry, the USS Constellation, the Babe Ruth museum and neighborhoods such as Bolton Hill and Mt. Vernon, which have rich Civil War histories.

And don’t neglect the more offbeat places, like the American Visionary Art museum and Greektown, which make Baltimore the eclectic and unusual city we love so well!

“Duck confit was perfect. Crispy skinned with plenty of delicous and clean meat, a very large leg sat atop braised lentils flavored with Serrano ham.” –Richard Gorelick, City Paper

“…Nasu Blanca is no joke. It is in fact one of the most impressive new restaurants I’ve seen open in the area for a while.” –Hannah Feldman, Baltimore Magazine

“It’s an odd combination, but it works. Chef David Sherman wanted to combine the cuisines of Japan and Spain, and the result is Nasu Blanca…” –Style Magazine

The idea became a reality five years ago when the trio opened Tir na Nog Irish Bar & Grill in the heart of Midtown Manhattan.

A design team and artisans from Ireland created this small piece of Ireland by salvaging interesting architectural pieces, furniture and bric-a-brac from churches and castles in Ireland and shipping them to New York. These pieces, combined with rich textiles, Celtic script adorning the walls, and rich, dark wood have shaped an elegant yet inviting atmosphere.

There’s always a friendly neighborhood group there without the crowds of the Cross Street Market area. In fact, it’s often referred to as Federal Hill’s unofficial living room. And during football season, NFL Ticket is featured on seven flat screen TVs. So you can always catch your team–even if it’s not the Ravens.

The food is definitely a step up from your traditional pub menu and the newly remodeled dining room evokes a romantic supper club feel, yet the prices are modest. In fact, with happy hour and food specials, it might be more expensive to eat at home.

Because Porters is just a short walk away from the Inner Harbor, it’s the perfect place to take a break from the crowds of Harbor Place.
