Restaurants

r1.jpgThe Scene
Overstuffed chairs, elaborate chandeliers and vaulted ceilings (painted a warm rust) create a feeling of elegance. Only diners seated near the windows get a view of the Tiber River, but everyone will get swept away in the mellow mood furthered by a sound system awash in jazz and American songbook standards.

The Food
Meat-eaters can choose from filet mignon, New York strip or porterhouse, all charred on the outside, tender within and served with crispy, salty shoestring fries. Seafood lovers can’t go wrong with firm, white-fleshed rockfish in a light cream sauce, served with steamed spinach and fluffy jasmine rice. Even a simple mesclun salad is gussied up with candied pecans, blue cheese and slivers of oven-roasted tomatoes. Desserts include a creamy, liquor-drenched tiramisu in a martini glass. How sophisticated. How decadent.
